The Regina 2014 NAIG Host Society held a press conference on Tuesday, May 14, 2014 during the Mission Meeting 3 (M3) to unveil the official medal design for the 2014 North American Indigenous Games.
The medals were designed by Laurie Artiss - The Pin People who will be the official supplier of medals.
The Saskatchewan First Nations Community Development Corporation (CDC) has been announced as the official sponsor of the medals for the 2014 NAIG.
Ron Crowe, Regina 2014 NAIG CEO states"it's a perfect fit to have the CDC come on board to support NAIG with the medal sponsorship. The medals not only recognize acheivement they acknowledge all the young people participating who will go on to contribute to their home communities".
Representatives of the CDC, Laurie Artiss and Regina 2014 NAIG Host Society unveiled the medals.
The Host Society elder, Tony Cote, officially introduced the 2 symbols that will be prominent in the community. These symbols, often referred to as mascots, have a deeper meaning and story behind their creation. An Elders Council advised on the creation of the symbols, their look, history and name. It was a traditional approach to creating and naming these symbols who will be front and center at all future events including the Games.

The press release attendees were also provided a sneak peek at the traditional song sung by local singer/drummer, Teddy Bison from the drum group Charging Bear. He was supported by his drum group and elder advisors. More on the traditional song in future posts.
